The Mission

Our mission is to bring together a diverse group of black podcast creatives and professionals who are committed to reshaping the podcasting landscape while striving to create a foundation that fully supports our creative voices, respects our brands, and celebrates our unique voices.

The Black Podcasters Association is an environment of trust, respect, and collaboration, where we can pool our creative talents and share our stories, ideas, and experiences with the world.

“It’s a fact of life that progress is almost exclusively generated through people. If you’re not sensitive to the needs of people within your organization, or with whom you have to deal, you’re not going to be effective.” — Reginald F. Lewis

Simply put, representation matters.

For far too long, black communities have not benefited financially or collectively from the work they have done to create, develop, and adopt various media industries.

That's why the Black Podcasters Association was created. We are here to ensure our members are prepared to take advantage of the early growth and potential of the podcasting industry.

We want to create a safe space for members to express their creativity without feeling like they need to “code-switch” or explain their “blackness” to other cultures. Here, podcasters can find a place to belong and thrive.

The mission is to move away from the “uphill struggle” of acceptance and fairness, and instead set our own direction and terms in this ever-evolving industry. We are here to provide a platform where our members can enjoy the fruits of their labor without compromise.

“Dedicate yourself to a core set of values. Without them, you will never be able to find personal fulfillment, and you will never be able to lead effectively.” — Kenneth Chenault

Professionalism - We value creating a standard of excellence that empowers all members to produce their best work while preserving their unique creative processes.

Trust - We value building trust with our Black Podcaster Association (BPA) community, the podcasting industry, and our audiences by providing authenticity and value while remaining true to ourselves as individuals and as a collective.

Integrity - We understand that a community is only as strong as its collective integrity. Therefore, we strive to uphold the highest standards of integrity in all our actions and decisions as a community and as individuals representing the community.

Diversity - We recognize and value the diversity within the Black community and strive to create an inclusive and respectful environment for all members to express their unique views, thoughts, and creative talents.

Community of Service - We believe that through supporting and serving one another, our community can flourish. We value the importance of positive relationships, emotional well-being, and mental health, and strive to foster a supportive network within our community.

“Challenges make you discover things about yourself that you never really knew.” — Cicely Tyson

Our goal is to create an inclusive community for all black podcast creators and professionals. To ensure the success of this community, we must take into account who is a suitable candidate for membership.

The ideal candidate should possess the following traits: an open-mindedness to listen and learn from others, a strong commitment to achieving podcasting goals, a desire to become the best version of themselves, a willingness to help others in need, and a dedication to building a podcast/business that provides value to their target audiences.

We want to ensure that our members thrive, and we believe that these traits create a strong foundation for success. If you possess these qualities and you are looking to transition yourself and your podcast, then we welcome you to join our community and share your podcasting journey.

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer.” — Harriet Tubman

As one of the largest and most engaging communities dedicated to Black podcast creatives and professionals, creating a unique, transformative experience for our BPA Community Members is important.

Preaching about “you get out what you put in”, though theoretically true, is not the approach we want to take with our community members.

It is our position that we have to meet black podcast creatives and professionals where they are at in their journey.

This means offering a central location where they can feel comfortable exploring, growing, and expressing themselves. It also means creating a protective community that offers opportunities for learning and support.

So what are some of the tools you can expect from us to help offer you an environment where you feel free to be who you are with other like-minded people?
